Horninghold Parochial Church Council has entered into an agreement with the National Lottery Heritage Fund who will assist in funding not only the urgent repairs to the church chancel roof but also cultural programmes such as research into the historic creation of St Peter’s and Horninghold village.
The roof repairs will start in the Autumn of 2026. At the end of the project our hope is that the church will be removed from the Buildings at Risk Register, we will have protected and conserved our heritage and revitalised it so that there are more people supporting and enjoying St Peters. We’re keen to deliver activity that will highlight the building’s significance.
There will be opportunities for people to find out more about the local wildlife. Local children will be invited to participate in a nature survey recording what plant and animal life they see. With support from the Arts Society we will create a Heritage Trail encompassing the history of the village and surrounding area. This is an innovative way of giving back to the local community, many of which have helped fundraise towards the project and will continue to support the church for many years to come.
We are looking for people to get involved and support this community initiative, particularly the formation of History and Wildlife groups.
